Our story

MAMA Coaching was developed out of a lack of support for women to address the complex changes that occur when becoming a parent. Resources, priorities, values and ambitions all shift in subtle, important ways; taking stock of this felt essential.

We have worked with hundreds of mothers at all stages of their career, and have experienced first-hand as mothers ourselves the challenges and opportunities of returning to work with a family.

Feelings of guilt, vulnerability, burnout and reduced self-confidence were the product of the split between professional and parent. MAMA was born to address managing such important – but competing – parts of our lives.

Alice Ballantine Dykes
Founding Director & Mother

Before Alice had children, she spent 20 years in education as a Teacher and Consultant before training as an Executive & Personal Coach around the birth of her second child.

As her world changed she recognised she needed a non-judgemental and supportive space to explore her own professional choices going forward. And if she needed that kind of opportunity – who else did too?

MAMA Coaching was started to create the time and space for mothers – in particular those who want to make active, positive choices about what their lives look and feel like.

Losing her own mother young, Alice has chosen to celebrate mothers as a way of honouring her beloved own. Now a mother to two girls, she is also interested in what opportunity might look like as her daughters grow into adults.

A creative, warm and curious person, Alice enjoys exploring what it means to live a fulfilled life – and thrives on being able to design a working life that plays to her strengths and to parent in the way she wants.

  • "Alice has facilitated transformational conversations for our parents, empowering them to make decisions in their personal and professional lives. We are constantly receiving excited feedback on how she has helped parents to feel more confident and fulfilled."

  • “Coaching has been the best bit of CPD I’ve done, and helped me through some big questions during the transition back after maternity leave. I am struck by how confident and engaged I feel with what I’m doing in my work. I feel I can achieve anything I want.”

Clare, Consultant in Dept. of Education & Mother

  • “MAMA Coaching was a revelation! As a consultant in a high pressure environment, I was worried about juggling childcare with my job and reintegrating after time out of the business. I really valued the safe space to talk through and troubleshoot challenges.”
