Sleepy time: Some things to listen to

I’ve been really getting into listening to podcasts, more and more. I’ve been enjoying shorter bitesize episodes, long stories, things about my health and fitness (as I enter Perimenopause), and my cycle. And here are one or two things about sleep and ‘Wintering’ - a phrase adopted (but not coined, I don’t think) by Katherine May.

May has her own podcast (The Wintering Sessions) and she interviews lots of people on many different subjects - with a reference point of what being in one’s ‘winter’ might look like or mean - that phase in any cycle of going in, slowing down, retreating, pressing pause.

SLEEP

First up - Dr. Chaterjee talking with Matthew Walker about sleep - especially why it is so very important that we get it, and what it can do to our body and mind. Have a look at the other post about top tips for sleep, to help you reflect on your own ‘sleep hygiene’, and how you might alter your daily sleep patterns, even by very small amounts, to create the best opportunities for sleep.

WINTERING

Next, I want you to have a look at Katherine May’s podcast, The Wintering Sessions. I really like her interviewing style - and she has interviewed some great people. I really liked the episode with Saima Mir, a writer I have been getting a bit preoccupied with! Below is a link to the podcast trailer - and you can explore in our own time.

I really recommend her book ‘Wintering’ - a book that dissects the months between October and March - and is like the permission slip we all need to retreat during the winter months - and at any time when our energy is depleted, we feel we are overloaded, or we have slipped through the cracks for some reason. - come rain or shine. Wintering is not just about ‘winter’, but being able to tune in to our own very specific needs - to check our pulse isn’t racing, our pace is manageable, and our commitments are within our means.

Links below to her work - and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Last is an Episode of Wild with Sarah Wilson - which is quite new to me. She interviews Katherine May about Wintering, and I thought it was a good digest. Link to her show below:
