Playing to our strengths
Knowing about our STRENGTHS, and knowing too when and how to play to them, can be an underused feature of setting and sticking to habits. Below is a list of Strengths that might describe you at your best. Strengths are not just qualities that come naturally to you, without effort, that you are good at - but qualities that ENERGISE and excite you. These descriptors are traits that you hope others will notice in you, and qualities that allow you to feel pride.
Choose a selection of strengths that describe you most regularly - day to day. These qualities show up without effort and you can rely on them because they are fundamentally who you are.
Which strengths could you put to use in…
Deciding which habit you want to adopt? (e.g Curious or Decisive)
Forming and norming that habit into regular, committed practice (e.g. Patient, Organised or Brave)
Checking to see what impact the habit is having or the progress you are making? (e.g. Caring or Analytical)
By deliberately employing your strengths, you are more likely to find success with your habits - you are more likely to see those shoots emerge and your intentions eventually bloom. And in choosing to use your strengths, you will reinforce them in your toolkit for the next habit to come along - and help you build your confidence and conviction for your ability to stick to your habit.
