My Midnight Heart & J*M*A

My Midnight Heart

Self-Produced singer/songwriter My Midnight Heart creates Alt R&B characterized by its ethereal sonic landscapes and poetic vocals. This airiness is contrasted with dark, hip-hop influenced beats, making her work both mediative and danceable.

Bristol-based Angélica Allen crafts dreamy yet danceable Avant-Pop with her project My Midnight Heart. Combining ethereal harmonies, hypnotic drums, and surreal soundscapes, she self-produces Alt R&B that is as reminiscent of 1980’s Janet Jackson as it is Kate Bush.

Following the success of her “Chest of Hearts” EP, including a tour supporting Tegan and Sara, opening slots for Solange, Blood Orange, and Foxes, and features in publications like Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and Vice Magazine—Angélica retreated from performing to focus on learning music production and sound design to be able to fully control her work along its journey from conception to completion.

Exploring various expressions of her art in the chaos of the pandemic, Angélica used her new-found production skills to build a sacred sonic space for herself and others. This is evolving into a multi-sensory presentation of her work which will include intimate and meditative performances where she deconstructs and rebuilds her music into new shapes and forms.

Her latest track entitled “anew”, was written when Angélica was pregnant with her second child. “I struggled so much reclaiming my identity with my firstborn, I wrote this song wanting to allow myself to enter a speculative space where I gave of myself easily... Opening to the possibility of being alchemized in the process.”

The hypnotic release enters with crystallized vocal synths and oscillating beats, creating an ethereal and iridescent atmosphere. The track is bold take on motherhood and the mental struggle of trying to nurture and support others while still making your own way in the world. It encapsulates the tug of war between internal and external worlds and tries to make peace with their co-existence.

“anew” will be followed by a vocal soundscape of the same name; offered up as the opposite side of the coin. On the single we encounter confusion and conflict, on the soundscape we find peace and resolution. The single and its ambient counterpart will be followed by a series of releases that have been broken down and reconstructed in a similar process that explores the duality of each track; allowing the listener to enter and explore the world of each track and challenging our current culture of consumption.

J*M*A

Jemma Roberts is a neurodivergent alt/electro/pop artist and producer from Bristol, known as J*M*A. Transitioning from playing acoustic guitar to electronic production, Jemma is finding her feet not just as a singer-songwriter but as a producer-artist creating eclectic, textural and colourful soundscapes. Jemma’s next project is a cathartic album of tracks about her late diagnosis of ADHD to raise awareness and improve understanding especially for girls and women.

With over 50,000 streams on Spotify to date, Jemma has released her own music, collaborated with fellow artists, received BBC radio support, and continues to perform live recently performing at The Mount Without, The F-List conference and the forthcoming Machina Bristronica festival.

Other work: In 2024, Jemma completed a Masters in Electronic Music Production, where she explored the challenges neurodivergent music creators face. The lack of resources pushed Jemma to conduct her own research to learn more. This led to the creation of The ADHD Music Producer, an online body-doubling initiative, harnessing the power of peer accountability.

From this research Jemma received funding from Bristol City Council to run The Neurodivergent Creatives Network- a 6 month project of co-working, networking and performance practice sessions + a gig in Spring 2025- made by and for neurodivergent creatives.
